The Power of Reading

We are excited to be part of the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education (CLPE) Power of Reading Programme. It fosters reading and writing for pleasure, raises achievement in literacy and we are already seeing an excitement for books grow and flourish with Priors Wood.

Alongside this, we are still developing other ways to increase a love for books and an excitement about all things reading. We have planned author visits for the 2024/25 school year and have made some strong connections with children's authors that we want to continue to explore and develop.

One of these connections was with author and adventurer Alastair Humphreys. Over the past year, our Year 2 class have read his book series The Boy Who Biked the World. Following the completion of the books, we reached out to Alastair to ask him some questions and he replied with a 12 minute long video...just for us! Thank you Alastair!
