Sports Day

SPORTS DAY – THURSDAY 18TH JUNE 2026

Nursery To Year 6

This year, Sports Day for all children (from Nursery to Year 6) has been arranged for the morning Thursday 18th June.  The main playground gates will be open for spectators at 09.00am and will be locked again at 9.10am ready for our ‘Opening Ceremony’ at 9.15am.

The main gate will be opened briefly again at 9.45am and at 10.45am for people to leave the school site and come in.  There will not be an opportunity to arrive or leave the site apart from these times.

Please note there will be no toilets available, however if you have a medical condition then please contact the school office to make arrangements in advance. This is for safeguarding purposes of all the children.

There will be 6 activities plus 2 water & rest breaks, and the children will rotate around the field visiting each activity in their house groups.  Each house group will be allocated a colour and it would be great if children could wear something in their house colour, for example a coloured t-shirt, or socks or headband.  Your child’s house colour will be confirmed by their teacher by half term, so all children will be aware of their house colour. Any questions regarding this please speak to your child’s class teacher, or if you are having an issue providing a tee shirt in your child’s house colour please contact the office at admin@priorswood.herts.sch.uk.

Once the main activities have all been completed there will be running races, in year groups, for those who wish to take part.  Sports day will finish at approximately 11.40am and children will return to their classes in time for lunch.

Your child should come into school in their PE kits, including any house colour items.  Please make sure your child brings in a named water bottle, a sunhat and has had suncream applied before coming into school in the morning. Please note, there will not be an opportunity to re-apply suncream to your child during sports day, so please apply plenty in the morning before coming to school.

We will be putting up some gazebos for shade for the children at the water stations, and there will be a small amount of seating for parents around the edge of the field.  For safety of all the children we ask that all spectators remain on the outside of the mile a day track and do not come into the centre of the field until it is time for the running races when you will be directed by staff to a cordoned off, spectator area.

In the event of extreme weather on the day we may have to cancel, but fingers crossed for sunshine and that we are able to welcome as many parents and spectators as possible to cheer on the teams!

Sports Day is an enjoyable event for everyone in our school community, including parents, children and staff. We want it to be a positive experience that everyone remembers for the right reasons. If any member of staff is spoken to disrespectfully during the event, you may be asked to leave the school premises immediately.

 Kind regards,

 Mr Bishop and Mrs Booth

Headteacher and PE Lead
