History
History Curriculum Statement of Intent
At Priors Wood Primary school, it is our intent for the history curriculum to inspire in our pupils a curiosity, fascination and understanding of the world through discovery. We believe that our history curriculum should provide all pupils with the ability to discover, delve deeper and make connections to find out about our world.
Our history curriculum will equip pupils with secure knowledge of the significant historical figures and events, an understanding of chronology, the cause and consequence of historical events, and opportunities to explore interpretations of historical events through topic-based enquiry.
Our world is ever changing, and we believe historical enquiry should reflect the dynamic nature of people and places and allow pupils to discover and learn from key figures from the past. We believe that it is important to educate our pupils to value and be accepting of difference. A key aspect of our history curriculum is Black History Month celebrations where pupils have the opportunity to discover people and events from the past and reflect on what society has learnt as a result.
Our vision is to equip pupils with a secure historical knowledge and understanding as well as the skills to discover their world and become accepting and understanding citizens.
