Under the current arrangements the LEA requires parents to make a new application for admission to the main school’s Reception Class even if the child already has a place in the Nursery. Priors Wood Primary School are a single form entry (usually 30 children per year group).
Reception (Primary) Admissions
Admissions are managed centrally through Hertfordshire County Council. For admission to the Reception Class parents will receive information from the Admissions Department at County Hall approximately one year before the expected year of admission. Parents are encouraged to apply on-line at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/admissions. You can request an application form from the Admissions Department at Hertfordshire County Council if you are unable to apply on line. The Admissions Department at County Hall process the applications and inform parents of their allocated school on-line and by post. In the Reception Class, children are admitted in September in the school year in which they have their fifth birthday. Please see the HCC website for information about delayed or deferred entry for entry outside the normal age group.
2nd November 2026 - online system opens at www.hertfordshire.gov.uk/admissions for parents to make an application.
15th January 2027 - deadline to apply for a school place.
16th April 2027 - National Allocation day -parents will receive notification from Hertfordshire County Council Admissions with their child's allocated school place.

Nursery Admissions
For admission to the current Nursery class, parents will need to apply directly to the school office. Please find attached the Nursery Application Form for Nursery places for September 2027.
Nursery children are admitted to the Nursery in one intake, in the September of the academic year during which they will be 4.

Friday 12th March 2027 - application system closes
Monday 15th March to Friday 19th March 2027 - school begins to compile information
Monday 22nd March 2027 - school makes offers to parents by email
Friday 16th April 2027 - deadline for parents to accept or decline places

Nursery places will be allocated following the same criteria as HCC for primary school allocations.
SCHOOL ADMISSION APPEALS TIMETABLE
IN YEAR APPEALS
In year admission appeals will be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.
Appellants (the person who made the appeal) will be sent notification of their appeal hearing at least 10 school days in advance of the hearing (unless you've been requested to agree shorter timescales).
Appellants will be sent a copy of the school's case 7 working days in advance of the hearing.

In-year Admissions
For admissions to all other years parents contact Hertfordshire County Council on 0300 123 4043. The admissions team at HCC will allocate a place at a school of parents’ choice. If there are no vacancies at any of the schools chosen by parents a place at the nearest school with a vacancy will be offered.
